EasyZoom Giga Collage Maker

The EasyZoom Giga Collage Maker is a free software (not open source), which lets you create huge collages with unlimited size (in the gigapixel range) from multiple images. The resulting collages are in the “Smart Zoom Image” format (SZI), which is open source.

Collages can be uploaded, annotated, and shared/embedded through EasyZoom, which offers free space for up to 2 GB. An offline viewer will be available (currently under development).

How to use the

EasyZoom Giga Collage Maker

Download the “ZIP”, unzip it, and install the software by running the “setup.exe” (Windows 10). Start the EasyZoom Giga-Collage Maker from the start menu. You will see the window above.

Choose the image folder
This folder should contain the source images. These will be sorted alphabetically in the collage. Thus, rename the images to have them in the preferred order later in the collage
Choose the output folder
This is where the final collage file (*.szi) will end up and where temporary files will be stored. Make sure, your disk has enough space left. Usually, the resulting collage will be as large as all original images combined plus 30% (unless resizing/JPEG quality changes). Make sure, the application is allowed to access the output folder.
Choose a "Collage name"
If this name exists, you will be asked, if you want to overwrite.
Important: choose the collage width!
E. g. 10000 (pixels), etc. The width must be larger than the largest image (unless resizing is applied)!
Border size
Can be left at 0, if no border needed.
Background
Choose a background color (black is default).
Image Spacing
How many pixels are between each image (0 is default).
Image Resizing
If you want to shrink each image before it is put into the collage, you can scale between 0.1 and 1.0 (1.0 is default).
Jpeg Quality
If you want to have a good balance between quality and size of the collage, 80 is good (default). Anything above 85 is not recommended as it unnecessarily increases the collage size and usually is not visible to the human eye as a quality improvement.
Optional: Watermark
If you want to have a watermark, you can choose between “Filename on images” (each image will be overlayed by its filename) or “Watermark with custom text”, which you can type in in the “Text” field. Set a font size, select a color and the font.
Optional: Overlay
If you want to have one overlay over the entire collage, choose an overlay image. Make sure it is a PNG with some transparency (then, set the transparency slider to 0) or you select an opaque PNG and set the transparency to 50%.
You are almost done
With “Create small preview”, a scaled-down preview IMAGE (just jpeg) will be created. Note: This does not do any overlays or watermarks, but just gives you a rough impression of the order of images in the collage.

With “Create full collage”, you start the process.

If you have e. g. 100,000 input images, it is well possible that the progress bar does not move for minutes/hours, especially while reading all the images. When the building of the collage starts, you should see the progress.
